Auditions are open for Geneseo Community Players’ summer musical: "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" by Rupert Holmes.
Featuring book, music, lyrics, and orchestration by Rupert Holmes, this warm-hearted theatrical experience promises to captivate audiences with its charm and interactive whodunit intrigue loosely based on Charles Dickens’s unfinished mystery.
This production — set to take place at Alice Austin Theatre at SUNY Geneseo — invites theater enthusiasts to immerse themselves in a journey filled with laughter, suspense and surprise.
Auditions for the show will be held on Tuesday, May 28, and Thursday, May 30, 2024, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 23 Main St, Geneseo. Parking is available on the street and in the rear parking lot.
Ensemble auditions will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by auditions for featured and leading roles from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Audition materials are available online, and an accompanist will be provided.
Directed by Bettina DeBell, with musical direction by Dane Noble-Rosema and captivating choreography by Casey VanEpps, "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" winner of several Tony Awards when it premiered, including Best Musical, Score and Book, promises an evening of rousing entertainment. Ray Suriani will lead the orchestra, ensuring a high-quality musical experience.
The performances are scheduled for July 19 and 20, with a matinee on July 21, 2024.
The show boasts a large cast, offering leading and featured roles and ensemble participation opportunities. Interested individuals aged 18 and above are encouraged to audition, and the organization is excited for a large turnout.
"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" is a cunning and clever show-within-a-show, where the audience plays detective to solve the mystery of Edwin Drood's disappearance. With a lineup of suspicious Charles Dickens characters brought to life by a talented cast, each performance promises a unique ending based on the audience's vote.
