Shake on the Lake Theatre performs "The Tempest"

  • The Wadsworth Homestead 4 South Street Geneseo, NY, 14454 United States (map)

Told through Shake on the Lake's signature fast-paced, simple spectacle-driven style, William Shakespeare's The Tempest features music, live foley, improvisation, puppetry, and audience interaction that will be unlike any Shakespearean play you've experienced!

Set on a remote island beset with monsters, fairies, court jesters, drunken butlers, young lovers, and other supernatural phenomena, the revenge-driven wizard and exiled Duke of Milan, Prospero, uses his powers of magic to create a tempestuous storm that sinks the ship of his enemies, washing them and their company upon the shore of the island.

Will Prospero exact revenge upon his enemies? Or is there greater virtue in forgiveness? Shake on the Lake's 2025 summer touring production sets out to prove "we are such stuff as dreams are made on."

In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved under a tent on the premises.

*Support for Shake on the Lake is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Additional support by the Arts Council for Wyoming County, GOArt, The Mary Conable & Norman Gayford Charitable Fund, and the Conable Family Foundation, the Ralph C.
